We had Hana's consultation with the surgeon today. He said that it is a hernia, which is good because that rules out any random scary thing that it could be (Jack and I were worried that it could be some horrible disease, like flesh eating bacteria or something). The Doctor comes down from UNC (go heels) and does the surgery. Which is why we had to wait 2 HOURS to see him (they tried to squeeze as many patients in as they could). Hana was great during the wait- it was Jack and I that were going a bit crazy! Thank goodness my Mommy powers kicked in and I decided to pack a lunch!
He said that hernias in girls only happen in 1-2% of girls... so I guess Hana is just gifted all around!
It is a small incision and the actual surgery only takes 10-15 minutes. Her recovery time is very short and she won't have any restricted movement or anything (thank goodness- like we could keep her still!) The only thing we can't do is submerge her stitches for a couple of weeks afterwards. She may have to get used to taking showers- we all know how she loved those in Alabama!
I am sure that it is routine surgery- but for us it going to be a little scary, since it is on our first baby!
The surgery is scheduled for Thursday, February 28th. I am sure you will hear more about it as the time approaches :)
