Brooke's art!

A couple of months ago, we got a letter from Brooke's art teacher that she had submitted Brooke's art out of the whole school in grades K-2 to an art competition for the county.  I honestly didn't think much about it after that.  Well a couple of weeks ago, I got a call from the county that her art had been chosen from all of the submissions for the county (about 65).  I thought that was a pretty big deal :)
Well, it wasn't until we got to the breakfast for the winners that I truly realized just how big of a deal it was.  When we arrived one of the high school's honors band was playing music, there was a full breakfast buffet, and the superintendent and most of the school board was present.  Come to find out out of all the art submitted, the superintendent choose 4 (one from each category... K-2, 3-5, middle, and high school).  Then each board member chose one piece.  The chairman of the board of education choose Brooke's.  When we were talking to him, he told us that he had no information about her when he choose it.  He turned it over and THEN found out she was in kindergarden! And the other art work chosen was amazing!  Needles to say, we are very proud of her! We are planning to enroll her in some kind of art camp or lessons this summer!!

it had an engraved plaque with her name on it!
The proud artist

The artist was supposed to get up and talk about their art, what the assignment was and what their inspiration was for the piece.  Brooke was wawwwaaaayyyyy overwhelmed (and in kindergarden) so her teacher held her and did the talking :)

Right now a copy of this picture is on the front of the new hanover county schools website.  It is on an about 10 picture loop, so it might take a second for it to come up :) click here to see it
