Brooke's art!

A couple of months ago, we got a letter from Brooke's art teacher that she had submitted Brooke's art out of the whole school in grades K-2 to an art competition for the county.  I honestly didn't think much about it after that.  Well a couple of weeks ago, I got a call from the county that her art had been chosen from all of the submissions for the county (about 65).  I thought that was a pretty big deal :)
Well, it wasn't until we got to the breakfast for the winners that I truly realized just how big of a deal it was.  When we arrived one of the high school's honors band was playing music, there was a full breakfast buffet, and the superintendent and most of the school board was present.  Come to find out out of all the art submitted, the superintendent choose 4 (one from each category... K-2, 3-5, middle, and high school).  Then each board member chose one piece.  The chairman of the board of education choose Brooke's.  When we were talking to him, he told us that he had no information about her when he choose it.  He turned it over and THEN found out she was in kindergarden! And the other art work chosen was amazing!  Needles to say, we are very proud of her! We are planning to enroll her in some kind of art camp or lessons this summer!!
Brook'e art
it had an engraved plaque with her name on it!
The proud artist

The artist was supposed to get up and talk about their art, what the assignment was and what their inspiration was for the piece.  Brooke was wawwwaaaayyyyy overwhelmed (and in kindergarden) so her teacher held her and did the talking :)

Right now a copy of this picture is on the front of the new hanover county schools website.  It is on an about 10 picture loop, so it might take a second for it to come up :) click here to see it

Spring break part 2

After we returned from Greensboro, the fun didn't stop.

We made string mache eggs :)

We went bowling... the first time the kids had ever been :)

Brooke lost her first tooth!  Unlike Hana's, it literally fell out!
Steve came by to see her too :)
We went to another church and had an Easter egg hunt
We had bunny cinnamon rolls for breakfast :)

How many sisters, 2 years apart, lose the same ONE tooth at the same time??!!!

Spring Break part 1

Since the girls go to a year round school, they have a 3 week spring break.  I was hoping that spring break wouldn't feel quite as long as fall break did.  But due to the fact that the weather was cold and icky... it did.  The one nice thing about the year round schedule was that my kids were excited to go back to school.  At a time when most kids are very over the school routine, mine were refreshed and ready to go back for the 4th 9 weeks.
Another good thing about spring break... all of the fun things we got to do!!!
Our major trip was a visit to Greensboro.  We got to celebrate Brooke's birthday and Nana's too :)
The girls found my old stash of Barbie clothes... they had a great time!!
 They decorated Easter eggs

I took Mom out to dinner, just her and I, for her birthday.  It was a great night!
We really had a good time... even though neither one of us looks like it in the picture!
We went to pump it up!
Everyone had fun... including Nana and I ;)
 They decorated cookies :)
They dressed up in our old dresses for a tea party... isn't Brooke beautiful??
 Cutie pie Madeline... always sassy!
Tea party fun!!

Brooke is 6!!

March, 21, 2013

This year was not Brooke's year for a big birthday party, but her day was special none the less!!
Brooke's birthday was over break, so we surprised her with lunch before school was out
On the day of her birthday, she opened presents.

And had a special breakfast... complete with bacon!
We took one of her sweet friends from school to get their nails painted :)
Aren't they so cute??!!
We then had lunch, at ci-cis of course with wonderful friends.
All in all it was a very special day for our cute 6 year old Brooke!! Happy Birthday Brooke!! :)
